Developers have too much power in all these major cities. No matter how much people desire affordable housing it would require the election of huge amounts of left wing politicians which not gonna happen when all the money is flooding into politicians who will keep developers happy and a population that remains ignorant or misinformed despite access to the internet.

The unfortunate truth is we have to wait until autonomous vehicles become so sophisticated and cheap that people will be able to live further from city centers because commute times are decreased due to every vehicle on the road being autonomously controlled by advanced A.I. This will allow cities to fan out wider, reduce public transit congestion and create more accessible land for development, allowing for more more reduced rent options. This will require huge leaps in battery technology, energy technology and A.I. but autonomous pod cars that are as cheap as public transit would make a very big impact.

We really need to start telling teenage boys and young men more that not having sex or relationships in your teens even though you want to is an extremely normal experience

i think a major factor in this is reactionary narratives of cultural decay- while in real life, the number of sexually active teens has been mostly consistent with a slight downward trend [link], reactionaries keep inventing narratives out of whole cloth about an increasingly debauched youth culture, including entirely fabricated concepts like the “rainbow party” or the “sex bracelet code” which have no basis in reality.

these narratives serve a dual purpose- generating fear in parents which can be used to push them toward enforcing reactionary traditionalist ideology on their children (namely complete control by parent over the child’s life) while also generating feelings of inadequacy and resentment in young people, which can itself be exploited by reactionary ideologies such as incel ideology.

i’m not disagreeing with the actual substance of this but we did do the bracelet code in my middle school.

if you are telling me that at your middle school it was the social norm that when someone snapped a persons jelly bracelet the snap-ee was obligated to perform a sex act with the snap-er, i absolutely do not believe you at all.
it’s an urban legend- everyone heard about it being done by a friend of a friend of a friend, but absolutely no one actually did that irl in any noteworthy number.

Part of it is connected I believe to an anti-intellectual element, this notion is propagated at a subconscious level that if teenage boys are too academically focused they aren’t going to have sex. It’s a contributing factor in my view why women are outperforming men academically. Once again it’s toxic hyper masculinity that creates social pressures where none should exist.

The Rockefeller Foundation has tasked 100 cities, many of which are capital cities, to build greater resilience and a more inclusive economy. Cities are resilient when they are ‘united’. Inspired by ‘The Blazing World’ by Margaret Cavendish the Duchess of Newcastle, the 1666 novel follows a heroine who discovers a world where diversity and inventions work harmoniously together; the knowledge of which she would later transfer to save her homeland, the United Kingdom.

Hollywood needs make an ensemble cast gay romantic comedy film set in 1970′s NYC with multiple couples played by diverse actors who are actually LGBTQ in real life. Its pretty simple and as long as there is a scene where they are all dancing together to Steely Dan or similarly upbeat 70′s music I’ll watch it. Happy endings are required as well. Think “Love, Simon” but with lots of gays not “Love, Actually”. In fact I put together a short song-list for inspiration:
